OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, recently released a way for anyone to create their own version of ChatGPT. They’re calling them GPTs, and you can build one, catered to your company or personal goals, in a matter of minutes.

Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Up Custom GPTs on ChatGPT

1. Account Preparation

Before beginning, ensure you have a ChatGPT Plus or Enterprise account with OpenAI.

2. Initiating GPT Creation

Log into your OpenAI account. Navigate to the sidebar and click on ‘Explore’. Select ‘Create a GPT’ to start the process.

3. Entering Basic Instructions

On the Create page, you’ll find a message box where you should enter your initial instructions for the chatbot. After entering instructions, press Enter or Return.

4. Receiving Initial Suggestions

The GPT builder will propose a few elements based on your instructions, including a chatbot name, profile picture, and default conversation starters. You have the option to accept these suggestions or request changes. Note that you can modify these elements later as well.

5. Refining Your Chatbot

The GPT builder will ask for more specific instructions to fine-tune your chatbot’s behavior.Provide detailed feedback, such as requesting shorter responses or insisting on source citations in responses. Continue refining your prompts until the chatbot starts producing the type of responses you envision.

6. Advanced Customization

Click on ‘Configure’ to access advanced settings. Here, you can alter the chatbot’s name and description as needed. Adjust the profile picture, either by uploading a photo or using DALLE·3 for automatic generation. If using DALLE·3, specify the type of image you want. Update the instructions to guide your chatbot’s behavior further. Modify conversation starters, adding new ones or removing existing ones. Tweak the capabilities such as enabling a code interpreter or setting up third-party API actions.

7. Saving and Sharing Your Custom GPT

Once you’re satisfied with your custom chatbot, click ‘Save’ or ‘Update’ if you’re modifying an existing GPT.Choose who can access your custom chatbot: Only me, Only people with a link, Public, or Anyone at your company (for Enterprise plans).Click ‘Confirm’ to finalize your settings.

8. Accessing Your Custom GPT
